In 1969, she was kicked out of school. She attended Calumet High School as well as Kenwood High School. She started to sing in smaller groups across the Chicagoland region. The first group was Cash McCall's Lyfe group was comprised of Hassan Khan. Chaka and Hassan got married in 1971.
