R&B singer whose rendition of The Prince song I Feel for You was an instant hit. I Feel for You by Rufus is thought to be a major success. Also, she is frontwoman for Rufus. Khan has been Catholic. She went to the Hyde Park Saint Thomas the Apostle Church for her elementary school. She credits her love for music to her grandma, who first introduced her to jazz as a little girl. Khan was captivated by blues and rhythm as young teenagers. She formed her first girl group called the Crystalettes aged 11 and Taka. Khan was also a supporter of civil rights with Connie Khan's second husband, her father in the 60s, went to many rallies. She joined in 1967 with the Black Panther Party and became friends with Fred Hampton a Chicago born activist. Although many claim that Khan was named Chaka when she became a member of the Panthers, she insists that she was named by the Yoruba Baba gave her the name Chaka Adunne Aduffe Karifi around 13 years old. After leaving the Panthers she stopped going to the high school she attended, having studied for a year at Calumet High School. She played in Chicago along with Cash McCall and his group Lyfe, which also included Hassan Khan. Chaka and Hassan became married in the year 1971.
